PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. --The Prince George city council voted 5-4 Monday night to grant All Roads RV a temporary industrial use permit that will all the business to expand its operation to two adjacent lots at its Hamilton Avenue location just off Queensway for a two-year period.
Staff had recommended council reject the proposal, saying the request for a permit is “simply another way to seek approval for a previously unacceptable proposal.”
Council turned down an official community plan text amendment 15 months ago that would have given All Roads the extra room after concerns were raised largely about the safety of moving large RVs on and off the site.
However, changes made to the plan since then were enough to sway a majority of council members. The adjustments included limiting the expansion to two lots instead of three, moving a fence on Hamilton Street further back to accommodate on-street parking and installing a gate at the rear of the property to allow flow-through traffic onto Queensway via a laneway.
During a hearing on the issue, five neighbours raised concerns about the impact on the neighbourhood, while several letters of support from nearby businesses including the operator of a supported-living seniors home.
