Tim Wegge contends that RV manufacturers must police their dealers and establish policies to restrict the ability of online retailers to sell recreation vehicles at prices significantly below cost. Is this a good to ensure dealers have money to invest in service and infrastructure at their dealerships, or is it restraint of trade?

Tim and Greg ... you guys did a good job on this topic. Another industry related site recently had a blog posting and it was crazy to see the responses related to topic.

The idea that you can purchase a RV hundreds of miles away and then expect to have it serviced with 'open arms' from your local dealer??? I have to admit that I did purchase my first RV last summer and I did buy it from a dealer a couple hundred miles away. Not because of the price, frankly, I paid more than buying it locally, but because they were a customer of ours. While my reasoning is different I still have experienced the same service issues that you guys discuss.

I get the RV home and a lock is keyed incorrectly, the radio/stereo doesn't work, and so on. No one is perfect and things go wrong. The fact that these things happened didn't frustrate me, but trying to get the issues resolved was another story. The dealer I bought it from was more than willling to fix them if I wanted to tow the thing back there on my own dime.

Will I purchase differently when I upgrade ... sure will, but only because I've experienced it first hand and happen to LOVE the RVing lifestyle.

Something should be done to bring things in line to both save a already 'customer satisfaction supressed' industry. Like you mention it probably has to come from the Manufacturer somehow. I really appreciate one of Tim's statements about how the car mfgs saw that it was important to help their dealers/disbribution line stay profitable.

Great discussion ... looking forward to more!
